(ImpactHeadlines.com) – President Joe Biden is facing yet more calls to step down and allow a younger Democrat candidate to go head-to-head with former President Donald Trump in November – and this time, the calls are coming from CNN.
During an interview, senior CNN data reporter Harry Enten broke down the latest polling data, which paints a dire scenario for President Biden’s candidacy. The data indicates that if Biden persists in the race, the Democrats could lose their grip on the Senate and have no hope of wresting back control of the House from the Republicans, a significant blow to their political influence.
Speaking to news anchor John Berman, Enten said that Biden is in “slightly worse shape” in the most recent polls and that his numbers pose a problem for house candidates because they can “only run so far ahead” of Biden at this stage. With a poor showing from the president, a scandal erupting around Biden’s age, and the suspected cover-up of his cognitive issues by the party, it’s likely that Democratic candidates will suffer from low turnout or protest votes against their party. What’s more, Enten noted that Republican candidates for the House are pulling ahead as a result of former President Donald Trump leading in the polls.
According to the latest data, Republican candidates currently hold a two to three-point lead in the House race among registered votes, giving the GOP a “clear path” to taking control of Congress.
Enten’s comments are particularly relevant in the wake of President Biden’s high-stakes press conference on Thursday night, for which the president was 45 minutes late. During the “big boy” press conference, Biden was asked questions from the press and spoke largely unprompted to the nation’s media. Throughout the press conference, however, the president repeatedly fumbled – just as he did during the debate – and made several significant hiccups that are hard to come back from. Not only did President Joe Biden introduce Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin,” but he even referred to his own vice president as….Vice President Trump.
