(ImpactHeadlines.com) – An influential Republican senator is slamming several blue states after they’ve allowed pro-Hamas rioters to walk free after committing serious crimes.
Alvin Bragg, Manhattan’s Democrat district attorney, dropped charges in late June against several suspects who turned their protest on the campus of Columbia University into a riot. The pro-Hamas rioters broke into the university’s Hamilton Hall building and barricaded themselves inside. They also destroyed security cameras and other property owned by the college.
Police used flash-bang grenades to subdue the rioters and regain control. School officials issued a shelter-in-place alert for students as the incident unfolded. Authorities arrested a total of 93 people.
Doug Coen, a spokesman for Bragg’s office, said they dropped all charges against 32 of the rioters who had been apprehended, claiming the numerous photos and videos from police bodycams didn’t constitute enough evidence identifying them. Charges are still pending for 13 other defendants after they turned down a deal to have their charges dismissed if they avoided being arrested for six months. One participant with no affiliation to the school is still facing arson and criminal mischief charges. Bragg also dropped charges against seven rioters who were accused of committing burglary.
Ted Cruz (R-TX) slammed the decision during an episode of his Verdict podcast. He also slammed Democrats more broadly as pro-Hamas rioters continue to go unchecked across the country. Cruz accused them of becoming even more soft on crime.
Pro-Hamas protestors and rioters in the US have slammed Israel for defending itself after the Islamic terrorist group launched a surprise attack in October 2023. Over 1200 people were killed, and hundreds of others were kidnapped. Hamas supporters claim Israel is committing genocide with its response.
A similar situation unfolded in Cruz’s state in April. Nearly 60 pro-Palestinian rioters were arrested at the Austin campus of the University of Texas. The group faced charges related to trespassing, but prosecutors dropped them over claims of lack of probable cause.
