(ImpactHeadlines.com) – Two members of the far-left congressional “Squad” group received significant backlash online after confusing two of America’s most patriotic holidays.
Cori Bush (D-MO) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) both shared posts on X in which they seemed to confuse the purpose of Memorial Day with Veterans Day. Both used their posts to promote increased funding for a slew of government services for veterans who have served. However, Memorial Day was established to commemorate those who have died while serving in the military. Veterans Day celebrates the veterans who are still living.
The posts have since been deleted. However, the removal didn’t come quickly enough to prevent savvy users on the platform from discovering their mistakes and taking screenshots of them. Those users began responding to the revised posts that were meant to correct the mistakes. The account “End Wokeness” responded to Bush’s revised post by saying, “We saw the original. The internet is forever.” User ALX said “Gone but not forgotten” in a mockery of their original posts. He later asked if her intern was “too stupid” to research Memorial Day.
Several others responded to Omar’s post with “this you?” as a mockery of her decision to remove the post.
Still, some members of The Squad, including founders Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) ignored the holiday and posted nothing in remembrance. They were joined by Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), Delia Ramirez (D-IL) and Summer Lee (D-PA) in their decision to ignore the holiday.
The Squad originally formed by happenstance in 2018 when the original four members met to discuss how they could promote far-left policies in Congress. All four women took a photo together that was later shared on Instagram by AOC. She simply included the caption “Squad.” It wasn’t clear whether she intended for the name to stick, but it did. Their ranks later grew by an additional five members.
The group has frequently been accused of promoting anti-American policies and sentiments. Some of its most prominent members have also joined the ranks of demonstrators marching in support of Islamic terrorist group Hamas.
