(ImpactHeadlines.com) – French officials believe agents with the Russian government are responsible for five coffins that were placed at the Eiffel Tower during the first weekend of June.
Visitors first alerted authorities of the coffins on June 1st. Each coffin was draped with the country’s flag. The caskets, which had been filled with plaster, were placed at the foot of the tower shortly after the Russian government sent warnings to France. French President Emmanuel Macron still hasn’t sent his troops to defend Ukraine against Russia’s invasion.
Witnesses reported seeing a van with Bulgarian license plates nearby as two men unloaded the coffins. Three men have already been arrested in connection with the incident. One of them, a 34-year-old man from Bulgaria, told authorities that he was paid to deliver the coffins. He said he later met with the other two – one from Ukraine and the other, Germany – who each traveled to France on their own. The other two also claimed they had been paid to help and said they were desperate for money due to lack of employment. They were preparing to ride a bus to Berlin when they were apprehended.
The driver and German helper had already faced expulsion from France under orders that have yet to expire. All three are also suspected of a nearby graffiti incident in which red hands were painted on buildings and city property near a holocaust memorial. Officials believe it may be related to an incident that occurred in October 2023 in which the Star of David was painted on walls all over the city. That came shortly after Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel.
The incident comes as Europe remains on high alert following a string of massive arson attacks. The blazes include an attack in London and the destruction of Poland’s biggest shopping mall. European leaders believe Russia is behind those attacks as well.
Paris will be hosting the Summer Olympic Games next month.
